WOOLWORTHS is poised to move into Meadowbrook, with Logan City Council signing off on a new two-storey shopping mall development off Loganlea Rd.

Work on Meadowbrook Plaza is likely to begin early in the new year, with 16 specialty shops, commercial offices, a 3350sqm supermarket and 367 car parks on the cards.

Completion is scheduled for late 2011.

“We see thousands of people moving into the area in the next five to 10 years and we know the shopping provisions need to be expanded,’’ he said.

“We see it as being a full-size supermarket.’‘

The mall development will also include a separate two-storey commercial office building fronting Logandowns Drive, near an existing McDonald’s outlet.

Development spokesman Stuart Whitewood said the mall space had already attracted interest from several businesses, including “medical facilities’‘.

He said about 200 people would be contracted to build the centre and there would be 200 long-term retail jobs.

“This is a vote of confidence for the area and will be a real bonus for the community during the current uncertain economic climate,’’ he said.

Councillor Luke Smith (Division 6) said the Loganlea and Meadowbrook areas were tipped for big growth.

He said residents in the area had indicated their support for the project.
